Meet Dr. Stanley Trekell

I injured my back in 1978 and saw a chiropractor for the first time, then wanted to change careers!

I grew up in Austin, Texas where I enjoyed camping with the the Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of a 5 palm Eagle Scout and the highest rank in the Order of the Arrow (if you want to know my Tonkawa name you will have to ask me personally).  I ran the Scout Camp Trading Post for 3 summers and taught merit badge classes. I have enjoyed drumming since the 7th grade, was the president of the Crocket High School Band, a member of the University of Texas Longhorn Band, and was the drum sargent of the Anchorage Crow Creek Bag Pipe Band. I built this drum section to 16 members and we won a Northwest United States Drum Corp Championship and competed in the World Games in Glosgow, Scotland in 2001. Working with the teens in bands, scouts, and church youth groups has been a great blessing.

I received a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas in 1974.  I served as a facility engineer in an ethylene plant start-up and the North Slope Kuparuk field start-ups after moving to Alaska in 1979.   I attended the University of Alaska Anchorage to become a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Alaska.

In 1978 I injured my mid-back and went to a chiropractor from which my wife had received much help in her early life.  They helped me and I felt I could help many others by changing careers.  My family thought I had lost my marbles, giving up a good paying career with an oil company to return to school on a negative income for 4 more years.  I received my Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 1993 at the Texas Chiropractic College.

After going on a mission trip to work with the Tarahumara Indians in Central Mexico, I saw how much chiropractic could help people return to health while using minimal use of drugs.  I then decided to return to Alaska to help as many people as possible through my own skills and networking with other health professionals to help people maximize their health potential.  Part of what has given me encouragement through this is seeing how my wife has been helped to maintain a quality of living with chiropractic care after breaking her low back in high school and again in 1998. This has encouraged me to seek the best methods possible to help others avoid the low back surgeries that were ultimately necessary, though the Orthopedic Surgeon was amazed how long chiropractic had maintained her with such issues.  We have continued to pursue new skills and if one method for helping us achieve best results we seek others that will and are glad to direct people to other professionals if their methods would be more satisfactory.  We want the best for our patients.

I remain active in a church fellowship, the Gideon’s International, hunting, camping, fishing, reading, and almost any outdoor activity. I have a lovely wife of 33 years, 2 married children, 2 grandchildren and 1 on the way!

I was born here in Anchorage and initially lived in south Anchorage off of O’Malley Road. Through out my teen years I worked on a charter boat in Prince William Sound. I’ve been a chiropractor since 1999 after graduating from Palmer College of Chiropractic. I had my own practice for several years and then joined with Anchorage Spinal Care in 2008.

My goal as a chiropractor is to help you get out of pain, to restore function, then to maintain that improved function so you may enjoy all that living in Alaska has to offer.

Thanks for visiting our site. We look forward to meeting you in person and learning how we may be of service to you and your health goals.
